Based on Ms. Garrett’s 23+ years of family-law experience, about 85% of the time when someone contacts her office for the first time, it’s because they want actual legal advice about their case—but don’t want to hire an attorney. For many reasons, Ms. Garrett cannot give unpaid legal advice. Some reasons for this include: the conversation automatically by law becomes “confidential”, the legal advice she could give could be wrong—since only by knowing all the details of your case could she give you sound legal advice; by hearing any details of your case she becomes automatically disqualified in representing the other party if they subsequently reach out to her and want to hire Ms. Garrett for legal representation—even if you spoke for even a few minutes; And, finally, as a solo-practitioner, she does not have the time and resources to give an hour of her time “for free” to every caller who wants her time. It usually takes Ms. Garrett a full hour to not only gather the relevant background facts of your case, but also, to then provide you with legal advice on your case and help you determine next steps.
